In charge of the Oracle database architecture for 4 sites from Bournmouth to Glasgow. Tasked with consolidating this to two sites, upgrading the current systems to 12c and managing the design and implementation of a new Data Warehouse for the 7 lines of business for Ageas. Systems include Oracle RAC, Data Guard Architecture including physical and Logical Standby’s and Golden Gate. The database range to multi terabyte systems, mostly on Linux but with several AIX systems.

Working for Red Stack Tech as part of their Professional Services Consultancy. I work primarily in the Oracle database core and MAA arena. My focus is on RAC and Data Guard.During the past year I have worked on-site for customers in Global Trading, Retail, Holiday and Travel sectors. The diversity of the work has involved migration of 250+ databases to 12c (as part of a five man team). Investigation and design of decommissioning of Logical Standby’s converting them to ADG, Migration of a web booking system 150 miles using Data Guard switchover to minimise downtime in this business critical 24/7 system. Creating of test/development systems and business continuity design and implementation. The work is varied, critical and involves communication with stakeholders and technical staff.

I was involved in Kuoni Business Continuity design and testing primarily from the Oracle Data Guard perspective. I was a part of the Oracle acceptance and performance testing for new projects. Involved in SQL and Database tuning with production databases of multiple terabytes, I was responsible for monitoring of the enterprise alerts within the UK and Europe. I was a key individual in the migration of Kuoni’s Swedish based databases from AIX to Linux Cloud storage. A member of the production DBA team and jointly responsible for the new release process through UAT, Pre-Production to Production. Through Cloud Control and scripts the team was also responsible for management of Oracle backup and recovery and disk space usage using ASM and file based storage.The Database estate was running Oracle Clusterware and supported Oracle 10 to 12.0.1. Most Databases were Oracle RAC but there were some legacy Single Instance databases within the BI environment. There was a mix of Online and Reporting systems the majority of which were 24/7.
