The Netherlands Institute for Social Research|SCP is a public organisation that conducts research on the socio-economic and cultural aspects of government policy. Its reports and recommendations are widely used by the national government, parliament, civil servants, local authorities, academics and the media. The Institute was established by Royal Decree in 1973, under its Dutch name (Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau).

Utrecht Area, Netherlands

The endowed chair 'Social Security and Participation' has been established at Utrecht University (Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Department of Sociology) by Instituut Gak, an equity fund that promotes research on social security and the labour market. The chair is combined with my affiliation to the Netherlands Institute for Social Research|SCP.The research project ‘Institutions, Resources and Intersectionality: Determinants of Benefit Dependency' is linked to the chair. The resources that people have or lack can determine whether they are dependent on social benefits. This project examines the importance of economic, social and cultural capital, while also considering health and attractiveness as resources ('person capital'). The influence of these on benefit dependency may vary over time, and can be related to the migration background, gender and age of people at the bottom of the labour market. The project therefore takes an intersectional perspective on benefit dynamics. It also analyses the role of formal and informal institutions in benefit dependency. The research is based on a combination of longitudinal register data and (partly new) survey data, and is conducted through PhD and Postdoc positions at Utrecht University.

The Advertising Code Authority (ACA) is responsible for the selfregulating Dutch system of advertising. In ACA, advertisers, advertising agencies and the media formulate the rules with which advertising must comply: the Dutch Advertising Code. Anyone who feels that an advertisement violates this Code may submit a complaint to the Advertising Code Committee. This independent body decides after a transparent and swift procedure whether an advertisement conflicts with the Advertising Code. In the case of violation of the Code, the Committee will recommend the advertiser(s) involved to discontinue such a way of advertising. More information: https://www.reclamecode.nl/english/
