Growing up within a black community in University City, MO, activist JD Mass PsyD tells of his successes and missteps in building alliances with melanated people. Along his journey he was able to witness and experience racism and recognize cultural differences. It sparked an inner desire to understand why we created a race based colonized world. JD has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, starting a tennis teaching organization while studying finance at Saint Louis University. He played a pivotal role of structuring Nelly’s earlier business ventures. After Nelly he joined The African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem to learn community building based on health, peace, and sharing. In 2017 JD earned his doctorate in Organizational Psychology at Phillips Graduate University. In the same year, he began his work with white antiracism groups. This work in anti-racism and what he learned throughout his journey inspired him to write “Race for What?” JD dares white folks to finally correct the harm of racism and participate in the creation a humane world.
