David Johnson began his career serving as a tax consultant for two years for one of the nation’s largest accounting firms. During that time, he advised clients of tax minimization opportunities and enhanced his tax knowledge through tax compliance engagements for both individuals and numerous business entities. David subsequently worked for several years in Columbia, S.C. at a regional law firm, honing his skills in business transactions and economic development matters, as well as negotiating favorable results for clients in tax controversy matters before both the Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Department of Revenue. Today, David has a business transactions practice in which he takes an active role in handling various types of complex tax and transactional issues for businesses and individuals throughout South Carolina. He has significant experience in negotiating settlements with the Internal Revenue Service and the South Carolina Department of Revenue for individuals and businesses in tax collection matters, including offers in compromise and installment agreements. David advises clients on the design, implementation and administration of employee benefit plans, including compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). He represents and advises clients in the formation, operation, and dissolution of business entities, including corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, limited liability companies and trusts, and in the acquisition, sale and reorganization of these various forms of business entities. He also has experience in business valuations and frequently performs valuations for clients engaged in mergers and acquisitions and to meet the valuation requirements for estate and gift tax return filings with the Internal Revenue Service. In addition, David provides counsel to estates and assists with probate administration.
