Since 2002, Dr. Leander has consulted for Dynogen, Hypnion, Saegis, CoLucid, Nektar and Naurex. Presently, he is Chief Scientific Adviser for Naurex and continues to consult for Nektar. At Lilly, he held various leadership positions on several Neuroscience Discovery/Development Strategy Committees; Serotonergic, Dopaminergic, Excitatory Amino Acid, anticonvulsant, and opioid antagonist program teams; anticonvulsant, antidepressant, antipsychotic, and appetite suppressant candidate development teams, and several management teams. Dr. Leander chaired the Neuroscience Discovery Strategy Group and Central Nervous System Research Committee during the development, and/or selection for development, of pergolide (Permax), fluoxetine (Prozac), olanzapine (Zyprexa), atomoxetine (Strattera), and duloxetine (Cymbalta). He was also one of the lead neuropharmacologists in the discovery of alvimopan (Adolor/GlaxoSmithKline, FDA approved 2008) and talampanel (being developed by IVAX/Teva), and a selective 5HT1a agonist, a selective 5HT1a antagonist and a selective 5HT6 antagonist being developed by various biotech companies. Throughout his career at Lilly, Dr. Leander worked closely with various groups charged with business development and research acquisition resulting in numerous in- and out-licensing activities being pursued and consummated. For about eight years of his Lilly career, Dr. Leander served as the Neuroscience Discovery liaison to the Neuroscience Development Strategy Group at Eli Lilly KK in Kobe, Japan. Dr. Leander also worked with Elanco Animal Health, a Division of Eli Lilly and Company, in leveraging assets from the Neuroscience Discovery area into potential products targeted for companion animals. Early during his Lilly career, Dr. Leander sought and obtained an MBA in management from Indiana University School of Business.
