My goal was always to own my own business and be successful and profitable. I wanted to share my knowledge with others so they could grow to be all they desired to be. I can say that with lots of help and hard work, I have been able to accomplish both. Now my goal is to pass on what I have learned.My automotive career started at Ed Schmid Ford in Ferndale, Michigan as a salesperson in 1974. In 1975 I moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and continued my sales career at Plainfield Lincoln Mercury. Over the next 4 years sold retail and handled large fleet accounts. In 1980 became the sales manager at Greenville Ford Lincoln Mercury. I was promoted to General Manager and eventually became a partner in this operation.In 1987 with the help of General Motors Motors Holding Division bought John Decker Chevrolet in Cedar Springs, Michigan. In 1988 purchased Mid Michigan Chrysler Dodge in Ithaca, Michigan. Bought Motors out at Decker Chevrolet in 1994, built a new facility in 1996 and moved the business to Rockford, Michigan where it still exists today. In 2003 added to my dealership investments by purchasing John Decker Pontiac-GMC-Cadillac in Ionia, Michigan.As a result of my automotive career and my desire to see people grow, many of my former employees have gone on to be successes in the automotive field as managers, general managers and dealers.
