In the Learning & Development Department, I support both the external work of workforce development and especially the internal work of employee development. My first major project, which I carried over from my role in People & Culture, was the redesign and relaunch of our driver safety and training program. My projects also include organizational data competency, expanding our internship program, and supporting our director with onboarding, leadership development, and performance management.

HRA broadened its HR department into a People & Culture department with a vision of being a workplace where people can thrive. I was happy to move out of my former role in law enforcement and into this project management role, where I was able to exercise initiative, creativity, and organization to support the organization I love. My projects included running an org-wide engagement survey, starting and facilitating an employee council, starting a monthly town hall series, supporting the revision of our performance review process, supporting the revision of our employee handbook, creating a job description library, and managing our employee intranet, along with the routine upkeep of employee resources such as our org chart, staff directory, and all staff calendar. It was my pleasure to support my colleagues in our HR, REI, engagement, and workforce development work.

The motto of the Field Services Department of the Humane Rescue Alliance is "Excellence, Service, Integrity." That may be what drew me across the country for this job! As an animal control investigator, my greatest responsibility is to handle animal bite reports: I collect information, implement quarantines, and when necessary also conduct dangerous dog investigations. I talk to a lot of people (including a lot of unhappy ones), educate where I can, organize a lot of information, and see cases through from open to close. In addition, I handle animal permits, illegal animals, and any other animal control work when there is a call for more hands. I have picked up numerous specific trainings, including pet CPR, FEMA disaster response, euthanasia certification, chemical capture with blow dart and air rifles, and the use of the asp and OC spray for self defense.

I was glad to be employed once again with Bolingbrook Park District from 2017-2018. The Building and Grounds department maintains numerous parks, playgrounds, and athletic facilities. Over the course of 5 seasons, I participated in turf, garden, and tree maintenance; playground inspection and repair; special projects such as drain tile installation; trail inspections; and maintenance and restoration of native areas. I had the pleasure of supervising a somewhat fluid crew of seasonal and permanent part time employees during my second summer. My favorite hat was being part of a recrudescent natural resources crew for which I attended prescription burn school, received my herbicide applicator's license, and was continually learning about ecology, restoration, and conservation.
