St. Matthew Lutheran Church’s focus is to lead people into lives of service by doing tangible good for others. I contribute to this mission by leading teenagers and their families in these same values and by advising and supporting the wider organization. Successfully leads a multifaceted department while contributing to the larger organizational goals through articles, speaking, teaching and being a part of the planning team. My responsibilities revolved around developing the ministry to youth. I I recruited and trained leaders. I planned monthly service projects, taught on a weekly basis, and led our youth group experiences in people's homes. I also developed and led community groups.

Responsibilities varied, but the main goal was to ensure nobody was recording the movie. The movies weren’t even released in theaters yet. These special viewings were for the family and friends of the actors or directors, people who didn't mind standing in long lines to see a movie before the general public, and the media. My specific responsibilities were to make sure no recording equipment was hidden before the audience entered the theater, then use metal detecting wands and look through bags and purses of the audience as they entered the theater. I sometimes would escort actors or directors to their meet and greet, or to their vehicles.

I taught every age in the Peoria School District in a variety of subjects. Most of my experience was teaching middle school, high school, library and physical education. Each day was different. I often didn't know which school, subject, and grade I would be teaching when I received my morning automated phone call with an opening. Besides the automated system, some schools would schedule me when they knew a teacher would be out for a set period of time. I could be scheduled in the same class for one day, on up to several weeks.

I was responsible to grow and nurture the middle and high school students. This happened through mentoring, Wednesday night youth group, and Sunday School. The congregation was very small with a small staff. I was able to lead in multiple areas of the congregation like adult ministries and preaching on a regular basis.

Students were sent to me instead of being sent home when they had discipline issues. I welcomed students into my room with intake forms to learn what issues in his or her life truly were. I worked to keep students in school through mentoring and connecting them with social services.
