Hello! I'm Jacob Huffman, a 28-year-old individual with autism and ADHD. Since September 2009, I have been dedicated to working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. My journey includes impactful roles at Autism Speaks (2009-2017), Autism Society of North Carolina (2011-Present), Special Olympics North Carolina (2018-Present), and various other human rights and disability advocacy groups.Throughout my career, I have been honored with several awards and recognitions. In 2014, I received an honor from then North Carolina Governor Patrick McCrory. My achievements in sports include several ribbons and a bronze medal from Special Olympics. In 2023, I was proud to be awarded the Billy Quick Outstanding Athlete Leadership Award, the only state-level award presented by Special Olympics North Carolina.I am also a proud member of Toastmasters International (Gastonia Toastmasters Club), where I continue to hone my public speaking skills with weekly meetings. Within Special Olympics North Carolina, I serve as the Chairman of the Athlete Leadership Council, where I advocate for and empower fellow athletes. Aside from being on the Athlete Leadership Council for Special Olympics North Carolina, I also serve on the Athlete Leadership Council for Special Olympics USA, and I serve on the committee for Special Olympics Gaston County. Additionally, I gained valuable experience as a communications intern for Special Olympics North Carolina during the Summer of 2024.My advocacy work has taken me across North Carolina, promoting inclusion and support for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In February 2024, I had the honor of traveling to Washington, DC, as part of the 2024 Capitol Hill Day, where I advocated for policies that benefit our community.Education is a cornerstone of my journey. I graduated with honors from Forestview High School in 2015, where I was an active member of the International Thespian Society. I am currently pursuing a Certificate in Health and Fitness Science at Gaston College, with an expected graduation date of August 2025.I am passionate about using my voice and experiences to inspire and uplift others.
