I was a founding engineer on the JavaScript Infrastructure team at Stripe. Over the course of my four year tenure, I led and contributed to many projects that established JavaScript as a first-class supported language. Here are some highlights:- Created a JavaScript CLI tool used daily by ~600 engineers. It managed JS projects integrated with pnpm, Bazel, and our remote execution infrastructure. It enabled a true monorepo setup that previously was not possible at Stripe.- Created and maintained a set of centralized JS dependencies used by monorepo projects. Folks could use the shared tooling without worrying about managing their own test runner, linter, code formatter, build tooling, and typechecking. Customer teams got upgrades for free.- Migrated our largest JavaScript codebases (over 4 million lines of code) to a new development optimized bundler that sped up initial development times by 20x.- Improved our remote execution system that decreased Bazel memory (20GiB -> 10GiB), sped up JS execution by 10% (in common cases), and improved sandbox setup up to 5x for JS projects.

Originally hired on as a front-end engineer to work on the main UI product that was written in PHP and jQuery. Helped form a grassroots movement to convert UIs to React. Helped drive React adoption that ultimately decreased bugs and improved developer velocity. Authored two large React component libraries: Lucid and its extension that was proprietary and internal. Gave public presentations about Lucid.Helped evaluate and was the first engineer to run production services on Kubernetes at the company. Helped lead a large project that migrated the entire UI stack to Kubernetes; the net result was a geographically redundant system that was more reliable than our previous homegrown solutions. Other highlights:- Worked on a TypeScript, Hapi, Node.js API that was in the critical path for all our microservice UIs.- Authored and contributed to the Ankh tool written in Go which became the de-facto deployment tool for Kubernetes services within the company.- Wrote and maintained a CLI that bootstrapped UI apps when the company moved to microservice UIs.

Built a web application to manage thousands of internet connected Android devices around the US. The web app was written in Angular and backed by Node and a Java API. It used several technologies:- Node & Hapi- Gulp- Angular- Bootstrap with custom Less extensions- ElasticsearchRebuilt the company's EC2 infrastructure by implementing Ansible to build and mange servers on the CentOS Linux distribution. This enabled the company to have isolated, reproducible, and automated environments. Also introduced HipChat and Hubot to deploy applications and encourage communication.Implemented a branching and merging strategy for all software projects based on a model by Vincent Driessen.Helped manage and prioritize scrum sprints. Which mainly involved triaging tickets in Jira and discussing software development priorities with stakeholders.

Moving web development forward for clients and CSG with new technologies and techniques such as responsive web design, Node.js, client-side JavaScript MVC, non-relational databases, and HTML5.Built and modernized the CSG public website found at http://csgpro.com. Used the following technologies:- Node.js and Express- Hosted in Windows Azure, continuously deployed from GitHub- Grunt.js- Browserify- Integration testing with node-tap

Worked as a consultant on various kinds of analytical projects ranging from enterprise data warehousing to real-time dashboards. Worked as the lead consultant for several companies in the Portland area on data projects relating to supply chain management, logistics, political canvassing, manufacturing, and distribution. Improved internal reporting and visibility for CSG through a series of automated reports and ETL processes.

Worked another summer as an intern continuing the project from the previous year. Contributed to several process mapping and improvement endeavors. Also assisted with a project to improve the transparency and reportability of the implementation of controls within the IT department.

Was employed as an intern doing reporting for the Infrastructure department. Worked with an Oracle database extracting and organizing data to become information that would inform managers and enable them to make smarter decisions.

Tested primarily switch and router interface software for a project with Hewlett Packard.

Primary responsibility was working on the phone to support the maintenance and repair of nationwide ATMs (Automated Teller Machines.) Also trained new employees and assisted the IT manager on various assignments, usually related to the Unix phone switch or network.
