About James Dragan
Physics PhD candidate in Brian Odom's group in the Center for Fundamental Physics at Northwestern University. I am working towards developing a technique called Photon Recoil Readout which lead to nondestructive spectroscopy of a single molecule. Have designed and built ion traps and radiofrequency modulation systems that can cool a two-ion crystal to the ground quantum motional state in an ion trap. By interfacing Python and LabView with RF and DC trap electrodes and acoustic-optic modulators we can perform experiments on a single SiO+ molecule for hours at a time. Graduated with an M.S. in Physics from the University of Connecticut in 2014 where I studied vibrational spectroscopy on Iodine molecules using ultrafast lasers. Outside of the lab I enjoy swimming, biking, hiking, reading, cooking and time with my wife and dog.
