I'm an experienced and well-rounded product leader, with a pragmatic approach. As a kid, I took things apart to see what was inside. My core drivers have always been curiosity, learning, and building. In my career, I’ve had roles spanning product management, marketing, venture capital, and engineering (I still write code every week and stay current on tech that interests me). The craft of Product is where I've invested the most time (across IoT, enterprise SaaS, and platforms) and what I enjoy the most.As a people leader, I build and empower teams with the talent, opportunity, and focus to do theirbest work. I value and have benefited from mentorship and executive coaching.

Embedded Systems & Electronics ExperiencePersonal Iot Projects 2011 - PresentMy professional resume doesn't fully reflect the engineering work (and continuous technical learning) I do in my free time for fun, a lot of it around the IoT space. Embedded systems work:- Years of C++ development for AVR and 32-bit ARM MCUs. Also built a set of projects using the Particle.io stack.- Writing an OS on top of FreeRTOS to better platform all of my IoT projects and give me the opportunity to solve challenges like an I/O subsystem, device drivers, memory protection (MPU), etc. - Customized bootloader, with support for flashing firmware and allowing encrypted OTA updates.- Wrote a TCP/IP-like radio protocol stack on top of the SX1231H RF chip. Implemented a TDMA-based channel access scheme, plus a "burst" mode for streaming larger transmissions between nodes. Adaptive channel management on TX power and TDMA slot utilization.- Wrote a memory management layer for an array of external SRAM chips. - Drivers for various ICs, including SRAM, flash, and many sensor ICs (e.g. BME280) I've used in my projects (SPI and I2C bus).Digital circuit/electronics work:- Op-amp circuits for amplifying photodiode output (for a plant "health" project, monitoring reflected light).- Solar battery charging (e.g. a DAC-driven OpAmp-MOSFET current source for charging).- DC-DC converter/power mgmt. - Current flow/monitoring.- Lots of “aha” moments with passives, circuit stability, etc. (Much respect for folks with EE degrees).

Svp, Product ManagementSalesforce.Com May 2012 - Jan 2022San Francisco, California, UsJoined in 2012 as a Sr. Product Manager and ended my tenure as SVP, Product. Along the way, owned and innovated products up and down the stack, spending more than 7 years in our Platform organization. I've worked with many of our Fortune 500 customers, and also several of the top ISV partners who build powerful apps on top of Salesforce. I enjoy working on end-user facing products (great user experiences are a passion of mine), and also love the power of building a platform and developer ecosystem to unlock scale and enhance time-to-value. One of the biggest lessons Salesforce taught me is the competitive power of a strong platform.Highlights from my time include:- Leading the latest iteration of our Work.com product suite in 2021, focused on delivering apps and a platform for Employee Experience. Managed a PM org of 16, partnering with an Engineering org of over 100.- Developing a strategic new product area for Salesforce, centered around contextual in-app guidance & learning in the flow of work. Products include In-App Guidance & Walkthroughs, Salesforce Learning Paths, and Guidance Center. Co-inventor on a patent related to this work.- Managing a team of PMs that owned global UI features and shared platform services within Lightning Experience, our flagship CRM product with over 9 million monthly active users. -

Sr. Product Marketing ManagerVmware Aug 2008 - Jun 2010Palo Alto, Ca, UsOwned the go-to-market strategy for VMware's third biggest product line by revenue. Launched in June of 2008, we grew this product line into a $60MM+ business in just under 2 years. I spent a large portion of my time enabling VMware's direct sales force, as well as our strategic and reseller partners. Over 80% of the product's revenue was driven through the channel, so I gained quite a bit of experience building and managing a productive channel business. In supporting sales, I was also a key spokesperson for the product, delivering frequent customer briefings alongside the sales teams, presentations at customer and partner conferences, etc. In the course of this work, I spent a lot of time presenting to and interacting with CIOs from many of the Fortune 100 companies. I also have a deep appreciation for the patience and ongoing effort it takes to drive enterprise sales plays, where longer sales cycles are common. In terms of driving adoption of new enterprise products, we faced a number of challenges with this VMware product line that required us to be creative in how we executed. Given a limited budget, we found ways to be scrappy and drive early adoption through highly-focused enablement programs, both with partners and customers. Working extensively with our top sales engineers (SEs), we continued to drive adoption through proof-of-concept (POC) deployments for strategic accounts. In doing so, I've developed a deep appreciation for the effort it takes to drive new enterprise products and to build a pipeline of happy, referenceable accounts that further drive the sales pipeline. -
