Site Safety And Health OfficerUic Science May 2018 - Sep 2018Barter Island, AlaskaDemolition of the Barter Island Long Range Radar Station for the US Air Force. The LRRS is a cold war era site the Air Force closed and scheduled for demolition and restoration during the 2018 work season. Our work involved demolition and disposal of the hangar structure and contaminated material, a site environmental restoration program and remedial action. Seasonal work ended in mid-September 2018. I am very proud of the fact that we had no injuries on this high risk job, not even a minor first aid! We had a great crew and supervision that was committed to worker safety. Their daily housekeeping was exceptional and this carried over into the safety culture. Comment: I have never been around so many polar bears! The bears presented a level of wildlife hazard that can't be found anywhere else on the North Slope. Our bear management program resulted in no injuries to man or bears. : ) Kaktovik is a very nice village and I enjoyed my time here with UIC Science.

Field Safety Officer/Hse AdvisorAlaska Frontier Constructors Dec 2009 - Oct 2017Alaskan North Slope Oil FieldsField Safety Officer for a diversified North Slope heavy civil contractor. Providing arctic safety coverage for remote heavy civil work, ice roads and ice bridges, gravel mining and placement, explosive magazine permitting, bridge construction, pile driving and dock projects, crane operations, general site development, logistics, camp management support, contaminated site remediation, job site administration, etc. I have worked in most of the ANS fields from Alpine to Point Thomson from 2009 - 2017 and several remote mining sites. I enjoy the challenging work assignments and helping our workforce operate safely. My goal is to develop each worker into their own "safety person" so they recognize and mitigate risks and mentor and intervene when they observe unsafe behaviors and conditions. This policy has been remarkably successful with very few incidents occurring.
