By examining the emission spectra, critical parameters such as electron density and ion temperature can be deduced, which are essential for understanding the behavior of high-energy plasmas. By coupling the spectrometer with a high frame rate (> 1 MHz) Shimadzu HPV-X2 camera, the emission spectra was also time resolved allowing for studies of the temporal nature of these characteristics. In addition to spectroscopy, I assisted in experiments using a quadruple Langmuir probe (QLP) to determine plasma density, temperature, potential, and velocity in the far field of the deflagration accelerator. This work involved measuring the currents through the QLP at various points in the plasma jet, allowing for calculation of the aforementioned plasma parameters and flow speed. The results of these experiments contribute to the broader understanding of plasma dynamics and are relevant to applications in fusion energy research and space propulsion systems. Overall, this experience allowed me to develop a strong foundation in plasma diagnostics, experimental design, and data analysis, contributing valuable insights to the field of plasma physics.Primary Instructor : Mark CappelliMentors : Aduragbemi Jibodu || Daniel Piriaei Show less
