Program Officer
CurrentProgram Officer in Ocean Battlespace Sensing (ONR Code 32), sponsoring basic and applied research in autonomy, acoustic sensing, and undersea communications.
Senior Analyst
I serve the Unmanned Systems Program Office (PMS 406) in three roles: chief data scientist, technical advisor, and assistant program manager. As chief data scientist, I oversee data harvesting, processing, and analysis for program office prototype testing and evaluation. I help subject matter experts identify testable measures of performance for objective quality evidence. I oversee the creation and implementation of data management and analysis plans for key programs. And I work with the operations team to ensure validation of critical technical elements, helping them develop long-term testing schedules and data collection approaches tailored to each individual test event. As technical advisor, I help Program Managers (PMs), Deputy PMs, and Principal APMs develop high-level acquisitions strategy. I create presentations the PMs use to inform peers, the public, and Congress, and I personally brief key fleet stakeholders, including flag officers and group commanders. As an assistant program manager, I direct research efforts by performer teams in the Defense Department, at universities, and in private industry. I manage $10 million in Congressional research and development funding to support those efforts. I keep cost, schedule, and performance aligned to program office needs and fleet objectives. Under my leadership, we established and maintain a high-speed machine learning operations (MLOps) development pipeline for undersea systems technologies.
Branch Head
Duties encompass three roles: Branch Manager, Project Leader, and Research Scientist. As Head of the Applied Sensing and Processing Branch, I direct the development of technological capabilities for enhanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), improving the state-of-the-art in unmanned systems technology. As a Project Leader, I drive the creation and development of Future Naval Capabilities that leverage artifical intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to provide innovative solutions for the problems facing the fleet. As a Research Scientist in my own right, I create cutting-edge algorithms for swarm robotics using statistical methods, optimization, machine learning, distributed algorithms, and optimal mass transport metrics. In all of these roles, I develop external technical collaborations, lead high-performing teams, and work assiduously to push the boundaries of strategic thinking and ensure dominance in the littoral battlespace.
Nsf Graduate Research Fellow
I research new algorithms and computational methods that use mathematical insights to provide solutions to complex problems. In the course of my research, I propose problem-solving techniques, write software to test those techniques, and construct rigorous mathematical proofs to place those techniques on a strong theoretical foundation.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
As lead instructor or recitation instructor, I teach lecture or recitation sections in advanced mathematics, including: calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics. I work with both graduate and undergraduate students. As needed, I write lesson plans, homework assignments, worksheets, and exams, and I grade homework, exams, and course projects. I also hold weekly office hours, and manage my own teaching assistants.Courses I have experience teaching include:* Survey of Calculus (Lead instructor: Spring 2015)* Differential Calculus (Lead instructor: Summer 2015)* Integral Calculus (Lead instructor: Summer 2015; TA: Fall 2013)* Multivariable Calculus (TA: Spring 2013, Spring 2016)* Linear Algebra (TA, Fall 2013)* Differential Equations (TA: Fall 2012, Summer 2013)* Discrete Mathematics (TA: Spring 2014)* Math TA Preparation (TA: Fall 2014)
