Working for a UK subsidiary of a global office equipment supplier my role consisted of architecting and overseeing the development of a fully integrated online ordering system. Historically the market had been using a telnet based ordering system with stock control management - so the challenge was to replace this with a web based product.Regular meetings with clients to gather requirements and feedback alongside working with 3rd party software vendors resulted in a working solution being deployed within four months. The software was originally developed in Perl before being ported over to PHP and mySQL. The web base solution continued to grow, driven by an expanding client base requiring increased functionality. One of the biggest challenges in the roadmap of this product was to provide full integration with one of our largest clients J P Morgan and their own inhouse eprocurement software. The web based application was responsible for around 85% of all order fulfillment, handling around 1000 order lines a day right through to delivery note generation and warehouse stock management. This was a remarkable achievement for a web based product built in 1998. Additional development projects at this time included a ‘web to print’ business card solution and a corporate ‘mobile based contact and address solution (WAP).I am very proud to have worked on such a big project that had such an impact on the industry and to have worked with some great people along the way.
