James was a Senior Consultant in ARC’s Melbourne office who has specialised in governance, management systems and risk in the Defence sector. He has provided advisory services for the design, development, implementation of the Royal Australian Navy’s Fleet Command Seaworthiness Management System, which has resulted in complex remediation within Fleet Command. His experience includes shaping business processes of the Fleet Command Seaworthiness Division, organisational functional mapping, coaching regulated entities to resolve deficiencies and developing systems that allow Defence Elements to more effectively and efficiently conduct their business.James has helped grow ARC’s profile in Australia by developing and implementing opportunities with new clients. He has led complex multi-year project bids up to a value of $9M, and has developed business and project strategies to meet clients needs. James has project managed various projects from initial engagement through to project completion. He has led projects up to the value of $1M (both fixed price, and time and materials) and delivered these projects in profit.Furthermore, he has developed and delivered System Safety courses for both the Australian and New Zealand defence forces.

James was an Engineering Consultant in QinetiQ’s Explosive Ordnance group. He provided a number of consultancy services including the delivery of Safety Case Reports for Army and Naval platforms, the development of Function and Performance Specifications, and technical support for Intellectual Property Reviews.His advisory work was recognised with a nomination for the Australian Industry and Defence Network Young Achiever Award, where he was acknowledged as a state finalist.

Thesis Title: Nanoparticle Manipulation & Forced Spreading within Microscale Acoustofluidic Droplet Systems.Synopsis:Lab-on-a-chip and micro-total-analysis systems are vital analytical tools used in both the biotechnology and nanotechnology industries. One of the most important aspects of these types of systems is the ability to reliably control and manipulate the fluid system itself or the sub-components located within the system, such as cells. This candidature focused on these two facets of manipulation using audible frequency acoustofluidic actuation, which are often pretermitted by researchers yet can provide a number of potential benefits for microfluidic systems. Achievements:- Research published in seven peer review journal articles and has been presented as a conference paper at the 20th International Congress on Acoustics ICA in 2010.

James has tutored and demonstrated a number of undergraduate third year subjects for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
