About Jean Backs
Got a big and intimidating project? My favorite challenge is to take a large and complex concept, analyze and distill it to create a document that captures its essence and fundamentals, yet is engaging and easy to understand. Some examples of documents I have produced include annual reports (Ohio State Parks Annual Reports 1995-2012), strategic plans (Ohio State Parks Stewardship and Service Strategic Plan 2001-2005, 2006-2010, and 2011-2015), and the 2013 Ohio Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.I also enjoy projects that tell the organization's story, and bring its mission and vision to life by sharing anecdotes about its employees, customers, history and aspirations. Some examples of storytelling I have done include the Ohio State Parks employee newsletter, Ohio State Parks magazine, and website features.

As Public Information Manager for Ohio State Parks, I was the sole writer for all publications including brochures, annual reports, and strategic plans. I also served as editor and primary writer for Ohio State Parks magazine, and the employee newsletter, I supervised graphic artists and coordinated print projects. I also collaborated with our marketing manager on website features.
