I worked as a dietitian in private practice for over 25 years, initially trained as a clinical dietitian. However, over time, I grew frustrated with inconsistent patient outcomes and began questioning why I couldn't help every patient effectively. I wanted to understand why some patients thrived while others, despite following the same dietary recommendations, showed little to no improvement. For example, one patient on a cholesterol-lowering diet would see fantastic results, while another with the same diligence would see no change. This curiosity led me to experiment with vitamin and mineral supplements for some patients, which was unconventional at the time in our field. Looking back, this was the beginning of an exciting new path for me.About 10 years ago, my search for more personalised solutions led me to Nutrigenomics. With genetic insights requiring tailored dietary interventions, I began exploring the specific supplement needs for each individual. Finding high-quality supplements became a challenge in itself, overwhelming for both me and my patients, which made me realize the need to deepen my knowledge in this area. I became accredited with DNAlysis, 3X4, and completed the Manuka Science program in Advanced Translational Nutrigenomics.Soon, managing supplement stock became another hurdle. Ensuring access to quality products from various brands became my new focus. I knew I wasn't the only one facing this challenge, and that’s what inspired me to create VitaGene in 2017, aiming to solve this problem for myself and others.In 2020, we expanded further by launching VitaScript, South Africa’s first virtual dispensary for health and skincare practitioners. This platform made it easier for other practitioners, not just myself, to provide their patients with high-quality supplements.Throughout this journey, I’ve been fortunate to meet incredible people who have helped and inspired me along the way. My mission is to promote health and longevity by offering access to the best professional grade health and skincare products in South Africa.
