I've always been about observing the details of the world around me, making connections between different ideas, drawing conclusions about The Big Picture, and communicating those ideas to others. I found writing and policy analysis, the two avenues I studied in my education, to be the perfect outlets for my style of thinking. Following the tragic (but avoidable) death of my sister at a self-improvement event in 2009, I found myself working with my family to bring some meaning to her death. We founded SEEK Safely, a non-profit organization whose aim is to educate and empower self-help consumers to have more effective and safer self-improvement journeys, while also working to improve the unregulated but huge self-help/wellness industry. As part of that work, I co-wrote a memoir with my mother about our experiences after my sister died: learning about her death, dealing with our grief, and enduring the criminal trial of the man responsible for her death. The process of sharing that story was challenging but also healing. We published the print version of "This Sweet Life: how we lived after Kirby died" in June 2020, and also recorded and released the audiobook in October 2021.As the director for SEEK, I am always trying to do what I do best: observing trends in the self-help industry, putting that into the greater context of the world we live in and what we are looking for as people in that context, and communicating these conclusions to others. I do this through our outreach on social media, our newsletter, and by predicting and hosting our podcast. I am also working on a seeker empowerment tool in book format.When not working, I also write some fiction for fun, read A LOT, play with my kids, sing in a community choir, and get outside in the beauty of the Greater Toronto Area. But I think I am most myself while singing karaoke!
