The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) is a statutory corporation established in 1940 under the Institute for Advanced Studies Act of that year. It is a publicly-funded independent centre for research in basic disciplines. I am particularly proud of being an honorary Professor at this prestigious organisation, which once was the home of Erwin Schrödinger and Cornelius Lanczos.

The IT4Innovations national supercomputing centre is a research institution of the VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava (TUO). PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe was established in 2010 to create a persistent pan-European Research Infrastructure of world-class supercomputers. This infrastructure is currently made up of six leading edge machines, hosted by four member countries (France, Germany, Spain and Italy) and accessible through an open peer-review process. This partnership powers excellent science and engineering in academia and industry, addressing society’s grand challenges. Open to all disciplines of research, and industry for open R&D, the PRACE infrastructure is a vital catalyst in fostering European competitiveness. PRACE is established as an international non-profit association (AISBL) with seat in Brussels. Through its work, the Irish Medical Council (IMC) promotes good professional practice among doctors in the interest of patient safety. Over the 2008-2013 period, the Digital Humanities Observatory (DHO) has been a crucial component of the Humanities Serving Irish Society initiative funded under Higher Education Authority (HEA) Programme for Research in Third Level Institution 4 (PRTLI4). The DHO has carried out an extensive programme of lectures, workshops, summer schools, symposia and public lectures. These have been eagerly received and we have hopefully contributed to raising the level of digital humanities scholarship amongst Irish scholars, enhancing skills and reputations not just in Ireland, but also in Europe and around the world. The Climate Change Research Programme (CCRP) was established in 2007 through the Interdepartmental Committee for the Strategy for Science Technology and Innovation (IDC SSTI) to develop national research on climate change.The CCRP constitutes a broad co-ordinated research programme across a range of sectors. The premise of the programme is to provide integrated analyses of climate change issues, challenges, and related solutions and opportunities. The aim is to identify effective responses for Ireland to climate change and to use research to inform decision-making on policy, planning and investment options.For further information, see https://www.epa.ie/climate/

The highlight of this period includes - the establishment of the DEISA initiative (Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications). JC was involved from the original vision with V. Alessandrini (IDRIS, F), S. Bassini (CINECA, I), J. Jaarvinen (CSC, Fi), D, Erwin (FZJ, D), S. Heinzel and H. Lederer (MPG, D), to proposal writing and contract negotiations.- the establishment of HPC-Europe. Drawing on his many years of experience of running the TRACS programme at EPCC, JC's expertise proved invaluable in assistance European partner Centres to set up a Transnational Access programme in their country. JC was chair of the Technical Executive Board and co-ordinator of the Transnational Access activity.- continuation of a very successful collaboration with Professor Michael E. Cates' research group at the University of Edinburgh. Led to a number of high profile publications.

JC joined EPCC in December 1995 as Applications Scientist for the EC FP4 TRACS programme (Training & Research on Advanced Computing systems). TRACS was the precursor to the HPC-Europa project.
