Within the political section, he follows North Africa, Sahel & West Africa, and is responsible for post-conflict, migration and youth. He took particular interest in involving youth in the EU-Africa partnership: Jean initiated the AU-EU Youth Plug-In initiative before the AU-EU 2017 Abidjan Summit and more recently the AU-EU Youth Cooperation Hub (www.aueuyouthhub.org): a multi-stakeholder platform where institutions, Youth, Civil Society Organisations and private sector pilot innovative responses to known challenges. Jean started working at the European External Action Service (EEAS) in 2011 within the Crisis Response & Operational Coordination Department. In this capacity he performed missions in Algeria, Israel, Kenya, Jordan, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Palestine, Senegal, Somalia, South-Sudan, Southern Turkey, Berlin, Paris, Lisbon, Washington. From November 2015, he worked within the Office of the Deputy Secretary General for Crisis Response and CSDP (Common Security and Defence Policy), in the Coordination & Support Team. Prior to joining the EEAS, Jean worked as a policy officer in the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2009-2011), within the European Development Policy Unit. Other experiences include the Africa Cell of the Joint Staff (French Ministry of Defence), the General Secretariat for the French EU Presidency & electoral observations (for the OSCE (Moldova) and the EU (Côte d'Ivoire)). Jean's first professional experiences were traineeships at the European Commission Representation to the UN & OSCE in Vienna, as well as in the French Embassy in London. He has also been involved in setting up NatureRights, a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to use new technologies to foster environmental preservation. Jean holds postgraduate degrees from the Political Science Institute in Strasbourg (2001-2005), the Law Faculty of Sevilla (Spain – 2004), the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (2006) and the College of Europe (2007 - EU international relations & diplomacy programme).
