Managing qualitative research for NIA funded study researching preferences of persons with dementia with goal to develop a preference elicitation decision tool:- developed protocols and interview guides, and implemented them with persons with dementia, their informal caregivers, and dementia professionals during Covid-19, utilizing video-technology- synthesized data and pinpointed factors for a discrete choice tool (DCE) to elicit preferences about supportive care from persons with dementia- developed conceptual model of the decision making path of persons with dementia; writing manuscript for publication

Investigated the personal health information management (PHIM) activities of older adults and important stakeholders in their lives. Looked for gaps and barriers to PHIM, pinpointing design opportunities for health information technologies.- developed survey instruments and interview guides, interviewed older adults, informal caregivers, and retirement home staff- developed, implemented, and managed online survey studies via crowdsourcing platforms,- evaluated and synthesized qualitative and quantitative data analyses into themes, developing a conceptual model of older adult PHIM,- collaborated in iterative persona development and UX design studies related to older adult PHIM,- coordinated project aims, managed meetings, co-wrote grant proposals, - wrote and submitted manuscripts for publication.

Coordinated work of multi-method research study exploring the personal health information needs and management styles of older adults and important stakeholders in their lives, including recruiting and interviewing 52 family members and friends, and coding transcripts.

Coordinated the identification and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data related to potential individual, corporate, and foundation donors, both proactively and responsively. Consolidated this information to form strategic plans regarding particular current and prospective donors. Improved communication systems between development and research to better educate and inform strategy for individual gift officers and for the department as a whole. Collaborated on research within the Cancer Prevention Research Program, studying the prevention and early detection of colon cancer using epidemiological techniques. (Newcomb, Taylor, Trentham-Dietz, 1999)

Member of team developing the Comprehensive Health Enhancement Support System (CHESS). a computer-mediated information, decision, and emotional support system for patients and their families. Developed modules to educate and support decision making. Worked to improve the effectiveness of patient-provider communications and containment of health care costs by reducing the number of visits through the use of this information system.Responsibilities and accomplishments included:• Led a project to elicit needs of breast cancer patients through designing a needs assessment survey and administering to 400 breast cancer patients across the country (Gustafson, Taylor, et al., 1993)• Conducted interviews and focus groups with breast cancer patients• Developed and presented conceptual models for development of program components; worked with programmers to implement final models• Coordinated pilot studies with several different populations, facilitated on-line discussion groups, and analyzed content of discussions (Gustafson, Wise, et al. 1993; Gustafson, et al. 1994)• Administered study for young women (under 50) with breast cancer, designing pretest survey instruments, recruiting subjects, and developing patient based decision analysis programs on various treatment options.

Participated on a team to solve cryptologic problems using mathematical and statistical techniques, as well as programming to create and adapt software for solving such problems.
