About Jean A. Mensa
As technical advisor to the marine program Gabon Bleu, I work in collaboration with the National Parks Agency, the National Fishery Administration, WCS and other NGOs, to improve conservation, management and surveillance practices in Gabon. My main achievements are represented by the development and implementation of a state-of-the-art integrated fishery data management system; the development of the Concerted Action Plan for the protection of rhinorays in Gabon that was endorsed by CMS in 2020; the fundraising of more than 3M USD with 2M EUR from the Dutch Postcode Lottery Award to establish a nation wide shark sanctuary in Gabon; the revision of a number of legal texts for the protection of sensitive species, promotion of improved fishing practices and updated management plans; the technical support to the revision of the tuna fishery agreements with the EU and ultimately the work done on maritime awareness on implementing VMS, AIS and SAR surveillance systems on artisanal and industrial fishery. During my time at the National Parks Agency I have then contributed to the training of staff on project management, data analysis, and legal procedures.
