My work as an Assessment Specialist has been focused on creatively optimizing products and programs to meet student, client, and internal needs despite limited resources. As an instructional design thought leader and subject matter expert in ELL, I drive the innovation of products and services that advance student learning outcomes.- Represented ETS programs, products, and research to clients and international audiences; presented at the IATEFL conference in Brighton, UK in April 2024.- Champion EdTech innovations to improve the effectiveness, sustainability, and accessibility of teacher workshops and the delivery of online ELL instruction, with 100% of participants rating workshops as either “excellent” or “very good.”- Designed and launched a training module for EFL teachers for young learners that was prototyped in Brazil, presented at the 2015 TESOL conference in Toronto, and was officially launched in 2016. Trained 50+ external teacher workshop facilitators from 26 countries approved to deliver TOEFL YS workshops in their regions. Pivoted the entire program to remote workshops in 2020.- Developed and deployed the new TOEFL Junior® Writing test- Leveraged content expertise while transitioning from human to machine scoring to ensure the delivery of valid and reliable assessment products to clients.- Co-designed an LLM AI-based personalized feedback tool for writing in collaboration with research scientists.- Managed TOEFL Young Students Official Guide and vocabulary book projects from authoring through to publications (5 books in Chinese, 3 books in English).- Supported the TOEIC test development team; trained new assessment specialists, reviewed prototype AI-generated TOEIC items for viability, and created a TOEIC test preparation teaching video.- Provided Korean language expertise by reviewing ETS assessments and related products in Korean.Assessment Specialist III (2014-2023)Assessment Specialist II (2012-2014)Assessment Specialist I (2009-2012)

As a professor at Penn State Abington, over the last 15 years I have delivered ESL Specialist Certificate courses to in-service and pre-service teachers. The subjects taught were Grammar, Vocabulary and Pragmatics; Second Language Acquisition Theory, Research, and Pedagogy; Langauge Teaching Methods; and Language, Culture, and Classroom: Issues for Practitioners. My students have been both in-service teachers from the school district of Philadelphia and pre-service teachers from Penn State Abington.
