About Dana Jean
Dana has spent much of her life working in the education field, teaching and leading nonprofits whose focus was educational in nature. Her career began in the University of Guadalajara where she taught English as a Second Language and started the first preschool program. Dana taught in the bilingual high school at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores where she developed and taught curriculum for the first Social Sciences Department. Upon returning to the U.S., Dana earned a Master of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh while managing the Western Pennsylvania Family Center, a nonprofit educational resource to mental health professionals and families. Among her accomplishments, Dana wrote a grant funded by the R.K. Mellon Foundation, used to develop a library and children’s daycare center. Her husband’s career led them to Phoenix, where she purchased a stationery boutique. Never losing sight of her passion for education and nonprofits, Dana spent her time volunteering in local organizations and schools, and eventually returned to teaching. Dana went from part- to full-time as Executive Director of ULC after the family moved to Texas. During her time, ULC opened three libraries in Haiti, and quadrupled annual revenue. In 2014, Dana decided the organization was ready for a new leader, and she was ready for new challenges. In 2014, Dana was asked to start a new outreach program at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in McKinney, Texas. The program grew into the Hands & Feet Social Transformation Ministry which has grown to over 800 volunteers who serve nearly 4,000 hours each year in the community. She also founded and leads a mobile kitchen serving food to those in need. She funded the ministry and her own salary through grants and private donations.After receiving her Master of Divinity at Virginia Theological Seminary during which time she served at a bilingual parish, Dana was ordained to the diaconate in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas and is currently serving as a curate at Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall, Texas. She will be ordained to the priesthood in 2025. Dana holds a BS in Sociology/Anthropology and a BA in Spanish, from Guilford College in North Carolina. She speaks English and Spanish fluently, and French and Haitian Creole conversationally.
