Bolden is an accomplice and certified public speaker who encourages others to keep turning left. No matter what, keep pushing forward with a positive attitude. Bolden is the owner of the Historical 27th Street Bakery in Los Angeles. A family owned Bakery serving the community since 1956. The bakery specializes in southern style desserts primarily sweet potato, pecan and sweet potato pecan pies named after her brother and mother. Harry and Sadie Patterson, Boldens’ grandparents, moved from Louisiana in the 1940s to Central Avenue, the heart of Black L.A, It was a cultural oasis during that time. They started a restaurant but the main stay on the menu was the dessert, primarily the Sweet Potato Pies. In time, the restaurant evolved into a bakery. In 1980, Alberta Cravin and Gregory Spann, Boldens' mother and brother, took over the business. With their leadership the bakery secured contracts with well-known grocery store chains, Ralphs, Albertson and Smart & Final. Bolden took over the bakery in 20008 and is the CEO. She along with her husband and sister continues the family legacy. The bakery is now one of the largest Wholsalers of Sweet Potato pies in Los Angeles, severing over 100 small mom and pop eateries as well as the grocery stores and Crypto.com arena. “People are really happy when they come here, and I think it’s because we help them remember when they were growing up,” Bolden said. “So many places where you grew up aren’t there anymore. They’ve been replaced by a franchise or an apartment building. But here, you have a taste of tradition.”Despite being born with asthma, Bolden has never let anything stand in her way of achieving her goals.Bolden is a 1984 Olympic gold medalist as well as an accomplished track and field coach.
