Jeanette Mitchell, Ed.D., is a seasoned executive with extensive cross-sector experience in business, education, non-profit and politics. She has more than 30 years of management experience in the corporate world, including overseeing multi-million dollar budgets as well as building and developing cross-functional teams and launching project initiatives. As a successful leader in the education field, her skills span management and diversity issues, as well as executive training and development. She is also a dedicated community advocate and is committed to the education and empowerment of youth, women and minorities.Dr. Mitchell served as a Program Director at Cardinal Stritch University’s Leadership Center, where she co-founded the organization in 2001 and was its first Executive Director. During that time, she set its strategic and programming direction, attracted funding, and developed its infrastructure. In her role at the Center she headed up project development and program management, including overseeing the Professionals of Color Practice for African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans.Before Cardinal Stritch, Dr. Mitchell spent eight years in the non-profit sector at the Helen Bader Foundation, where she was brought on to create their education program area. Under her leadership, the foundation’s innovative and strategic policy funding helped to propel Milwaukee to nationwide recognition for its broad array of educational choices for parents and children.Dr. Mitchell has also spent more than 30 years in the corporate sector, holding senior management roles at Ameritech/SBC/AT&T. During her career, she directed teams ranging from five to 500, both statewide and regionally. She had a strong track record of success, rising from directory assistance operator to become the company’s first African-American female District Manager. Her experience included managing a department that handled 15,000 residential customers, spearheading a comprehensive software conversion for a five-state regional billing system, and assisting in the reorganization of a department following corporate restructuring.During that time, Dr. Mitchell also served as a three-term president of the City of Milwaukee School Board. She was the first African American elected to represent her district and was twice re-elected to the board. As board president, she built and brokered political alliances and directed and led a superintendent search. She also appeared frequently on TV and in the newspapers representing the board and commenting on educational issues.
