This included assessing and recommending projects for development funding and liaising with funded filmmakers on creating high-quality creative deliverables (treatments, trailers, sizzles etc), as well as advising prospective applicants on how to make their applications competitive. I also assessed applications for the agency’s popular Enterprise Program, which encourages submissions from those wishing to develop their screen business and/or creative personnel and strategies.I ran a number of special initiatives including a joint commissioning initiative with Al Jazeera English’s Witness international documentary strand, culminating in a Pitch Forum at the AIDC (Australian International Documentary Conference) and an initiative to commission films for ABC’s Art Bites strand. The main workshop usually consisted of around 25 delegates who had to be managed and mentored, both collectively and individually, through a 3-day weekend of courses and activities.

Following the success of the first show, which aired to 9 million viewers on BBC ONE on a Saturday night, I went on to produce a further five Test the Nation shows for the BBC, as well as contributing to the book accompanying the series and playing an integral part in developing the online and in-studio technologies to make this complex interactive show a truly multi-platform experience.I also developed and produced 26 episodes of a new formatted celebrity interview show called IT'S YOUR FUNERAL for Channel Five in which celebrities as diverse as Germaine Greer, Gordon Ramsay and Tanni Grey-Thompson revealed the guests, music and other features they'd have for their final send-offs (less macabre than it sounds!!).

This was an ambitious primetime live-event series and as Producer I managed a team of over 100, including a core team at production company Talent TV (where I was Head of Factual) and personnel from various BBC departments including New Media/Interactive and Communications and external contractor Monterosa (digital company supplying the technical infrastructure for the show). At the time, this was a ground-breaking show which required rapid development and testing of technology in order to come to fruition. The live events shows were regularly watched by primetime audiences of 8 or 9 million.
