Undergraduate Research Assistant - Nsf Rui
I worked as an undergraduate research assistant for an NSF-RUI funded project studying the extraction, purification, and characterization of the interaction between cyclotides and cylclotide aggregates with lipid bilayers. I assisted in method development to optimize extraction and purification of cyclic peptides from plant material using both traditional liquid-liquid solvent extraction and microwave assisted extraction methods. I analyzed the products using infrared (IR) spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). I developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory instruments and processes, trained new lab members, and I oversaw a small group of summer interns. Additionally, I presented this research at the American Chemical Society’s spring national conference with a travel award after winning the second place poster at the Herty Medalist Undergraduate Research Symposium (HMURS).
Peer Supplemental Instruction (Psi) Leader
As a peer supplemental instruction (PSI) leader, I led interactive PSI sessions in both online and in-person environments (2 sessions/week) to support students enrolled in General Chemistry II. I collaborated on weekly lesson plans with my co-leader to foster a sense of belonging and community within our sections. Additionally, I attended weekly leadership and career development training and audited lectures for the general chemistry course to remain current in instruction and methodologies. I maintained faculty-leader relationships and assisted in data collection to monitor students’ attendance/progress. I also presented research on this data reflecting on the benefit of the program at an international conference on a travel award.
Summer Undergraduate Research Student
As a summer undergraduate research student, I worked in a bioanalytical lipidomics laboratory developing a method for identifying fatty acid isomers using RPLC-IM-MS methodology. I conducted large scale data analysis using Progenesis and MassLynx software. I performed lipid extraction from bacteria using the Bligh and Dyer method. During my time in this lab, I also obtained a biosafety level 2 certification to work with hazardous bacteria and presented my findings in a program-wide research symposium.
Owner
During my time of owning a luxury handcrafted bath and body goods company specializing in cold process soap, I formulated and produced cosmetic products including maintaining product contracts with local salons. I provided high-quality customer service via online platforms and in-person sales. I cultivated and promoted company brand through social media and high-quality photography. I maintained my workshop and records to GMP standards.
Workflow Manager
As a workflow manager, I served as interdepartmental liaison and escalation point of contact. I helped manage custom solutions, investigations, and million dollar projects. I developed project tracking that improved on-time delivery amongst my team, and I documented training procedures and assisted with on-boarding development plans.
