Supporting Citrix ADC (Netscaler) in an Enterprise environment

• Senior Systems Engineer in the virtualization team supporting the client’s virtualization environment and adhering to strict SLA’s. The environment consists of 4 x VMware Sphere 6.x Virtual Centre servers and +-200 VMware Sphere 5.x/6.x hosts and +- 2100 virtual servers.• Included in the VMware environment, the team supports various VMware vSAN clusters. • In addition, the team also supports +- 60 Microsoft Hyper-V hosts and +- 400 virtual servers, managed by Virtual Machine Manager.• Work closely with various teams to support the environment i.e. storage, backup, Linux and server teams.• Mentor, train, assist and advise both junior and senior members of the team in day to day operations, procedures and troubleshooting tasks. • Compile and update standards, baseline documents and operating procedures for the virtualization environment• Ensure that these standards are strictly adhered to throughout the environment.• Provide input and advice to management regarding day to day operations and how changes could affect the environment.• Work predominantly on various projects as Technical Lead Engineer but also perform day to day operational tasks i.e. BAU as required to support the team. This includes working after hours on a regular basis. • Requests and projects are assigned, and changes managed through CA Unicenter.• Use various management and in-house tools to manage the environment e.g. Turbonomic, RVtools etc.• Use scripting and automation tools whenever possible to improve and speed up repetitive tasks using Powershell, PowerCLI etc.• Provide input and service improvements suggestions for monthly reports.• Perform standby (after hours) on a rotational basis to support the client’s virtualization environment.• Perform necessary research to support/optimise the environment and training as required on an ongoing basis to keep up to date with current technologies.

• Part of a team of engineers who support +- 1000 Wintel servers in terms of operating system support which includes Microsoft Windows 2000/2003/2008/2010/2012 servers.• Responsible for patch management of the Microsoft servers using Microsoft System Centre Configuration Management (SCCM) tool.• Perform the necessary research as required.• Compile necessary processes and procedures as required.• Part of a VMware team who supports VMware ESX environment which consists of +- 16 VMware ESX vSphere 4 hosts that run +- 300 servers. • Compile and maintain the standby roster for the team.• Adhere to change control processes and procedures as per ITIL 3.
