About Jean Soo Park
My career spans close to 20 years of a diversity of legal and service experience. As a former judicial law clerk and prosecutor, I developed valuable analytical skills in writing and oral advocacy. Moreover, my strong interpersonal skills enabled me to work with a diversity of individuals. Thus, whether I worked directly with a judge, collaborated with my supervisors and colleagues about how to address a "close-call" legal issue, spent busy weekends interviewing crime victims and law enforcement agents, or argued before a rigorous panel of justices, I embraced each opportunity. My work in immigration law and civil legal services added to my solid foundation in legal work and service.Through my work, I have gained exposure to and created relationships in a many communities. Whether it was in the halls of federal court, the trenches of the South Bronx, a homeless shelter or office in East Harlem, I embraced the chance to learn about each individual I encountered, and the very community I stood in. At NYU Wagner, I developed a set of analytical tools which complement my legal training and experiences working with international and domestic non-profit organizations. I also explored my leadership philosophy which later served me well as a legal director – lifting up my team members, engaging in meaningful discussions, receiving constructive feedback, and taking responsibility for my mistakes.Currently as a hearing officer, I see how all of my experiences help me to make each hearing productive and fair. I am able to set the tone for each hearing, invite a conversation between the parties, and diffuse tensions when they arise. I carefully assess the evidence, examine witness testimony, and thoughtfully write decisions on the law and facts.
