I have worked on websites, both as freelance assignments, and for friends and family, ever since I gained my masters degree in e-publishing from City University's School of Journalism. By working in my spare time of web design projects I have maintained and developed my web design skills to keep them in step with the latest updates.

As a Qualification Development Leader I project manage the creation of DfE recognised courses and tests, including A Level History, and a variety of vocationally aimed BTEC Level 3s. Managing and coordinating large cohorts of subject experts, I work to tight deadlines while creating qualifications and tests which meet the rigorous standards required by the Department for Education.

As an online moderator I worked on a series of high profile projects, including ITV, BBC, X Factor, The Economist, ABC and MTV.I worked to implement the client organisation's web posting policies, adapting quickly to new platforms and systems for moderating user comments.

The move to AltAssets, the world’s biggest online private equity news service, gave me the opportunity to experience financial journalism, writing features and posting news articles for a website with an international readership of nearly half a million. It enabled me to take on a much more web-focused role, with responsibility for writing (in HTML) and sending out the firm’s keynote weekly e-newsletter, re-vamping and running its bi-weekly podcasts, blogging and online news-writing.

As the largest publication in business-to-business IT, the newspaper represented a big new challenge for me, writing for a much larger and more discerning audience than previously. I have had to develop my style of writing to fit different types of article including news, analysis and features, as well as maintaining a steady flow of web stories. As an elite title, Computing has given me the chance to travel and communicate widely with CIOs, IT directors and managers, and to conduct interviews with some of the most senior people in the world of IT on an almost daily basis. As a result, I have developed a wide base of contacts within the highest levels of the IT industry.

In my year-and-a-half in charge of ECM365 for Penton Media Europe, I was the website’s designer and its main content creator. Having fully re-designed the whole look and feel of the website to make it more usable and visually appealing to its target audience, I also ran it on a day to day basis, generating and learning to source diverse content. I went on to expand my role, taking over the running of the weekly email newsletter, turning it from a boring digest into a humorous and satirical take on the industry I was serving, using it to engage my readers with competitions and surveys.

Managing a large online learning community, we helped teachers to focus on how they use computers, and what they wanted to achieve from having them as a resource.
