Senior Vice President, Production InnovationEspn Oct 2014 - Jul 2016Bristol, Ct, UsDrake oversaw the development of a variety of industry-advancing new technology systems, most recently the Pylon Cam project, and the ESPN Virtual 3 system. Drake was also extensively involved in the development of player tracking systems, including ESPN's testing of the NFL’s Next Gen system, and the other player tracking systems involving college football and soccer. Drake believes the confluence of the linear television experience and digital distribution is truly inevitable. But in the end, it will always be about telling better stories to make the presentation- on whatever platform- more compelling for the viewer. -
Senior Vice President & Executive Producer, Event ProductionEspn 2000 - Oct 2014Bristol, Ct, UsIn his prior role as Senior Vice President and Executive Producer, Event Production, Drake oversaw enormous growth in the quantity and quality of all events that were produced on ESPN over a 15 year period, culminating with ESPN's extraordinary coverage of the 2014 World Cup from Brazil, which Drake directly oversaw from ESPN's massive and magnificent broadcast facility on Copacabana Beach in Rio. This followed his direct oversight of the 2010 World Cup from South Africa, which received 12 Emmy nominations and 3 Emmy Awards. Monday Night Football, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, Wimbledon, The Open Championship, the X Games, and the NBA... Drake has overseen all of them, and ESPN's reputation for excellence grew significantly on his watch. He also produced or directed four America's Cup events, including the 1995 America's Cup, where he met his wife Suzy Leech, who was handling the bow for America3.Drake has often noted his fascination with bringing things to television that cannot be seen. "As with First and 10, the KZone and now Virtual 3, we enhance the viewing experience with technology, creating visual elements that do not exist in the real world. I always enjoy the story of the son who attends his first NFL game with his father, only to ask why he cannot see the yellow line".While Drake's keen eye for production and technology are always at the forefront, there is an equally important understanding of financial responsibility and personnel management. Drake has never missed a budget at ESPN, and the quality of the people on his team is well known. He is a proven leader who inspires people to excel. -
