I've recently finished my training for Discovery Partners Institute's full stack software developer apprenticeship, where I learned object oriented programming and deployment of web-based applications, as well as developed connections with other trainees and instructors and helping each other improve our technical and soft skills.It's been a winding road to where I currently am, not knowing what I wanted do for my career for a long time. I chose a major in civil engineering since I liked statics during my physics classes and remembering the fun I had as a kid making structures out of Legos. I graduated with my bachelor's in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, learning more about problem solving and the engineering process, but decided to expand my scope to other fields that share similar problem solving skills. This landed me in a technical solutions engineer role at healthcare software company called Epic. During my 2 years at Epic, I honed my skills in communication and task/time management, as well as discovered my interest in the software development.Deciding to pivot to development, I've taught myself HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as well as a little bit of React and Python through online resources, but wanted some more structured guidance in my technical skills and in my understanding of a developer's mindset, which has led me to my current position at DPI. At DPI, I'm learning to receiving guidance on professional growth and further developing essential soft skills, in addition to learning how to code with Ruby on Rails.I'm looking for entry software development positions to further improve my skills as well as contribute to a meaningful project, and learns the ins and outs of creating a useful and user-friendly solutions to problems.
