  • Colorado School Of Mines: Center For Biomechanics And Rehabilitation Research
    Research Assistant
Colorado School Of Mines: Center For Biomechanics And Rehabilitation Research Jan 2008 - Present
    Golden, Colorado
I am currently performing research as part of my PhD on the topic of non-linear statistical shape modeling of the lumbar spine. This work includes foci of shape classification, parameterization, and principle component analysis of lumbar vertebra geometry. The goal of the work is to understand variation in vertebra shape and how it relates to population-based spine biomechanics. Toward this end, we develop methods to parameterize shape in the support of the creation of subject-specific, finite element, biomechanics models and to explore and infer statistical relationships between vertebra shape and diverse, population-derived metrics such as load transmission, range of motion, and the prevalence of back pain.As part of the Colorado School of Mines Computational Biomechanics Research Group, I collaborate with Professors and other Graduate Students to develop innovative solutions to compelling research topics in the field of biomechanics.Biomechanics involves the study of physics, biology, kinematics, and kinetics (among other topics) associated with engineering problems that involve living organisms, including humans.Such research can be applied to a broad area of industrial and clinical applications including prosthetic & orthopedic device design and development, ergonomics, sports & rehabilitation engineering, kinesiology, or even etymology and pathology.Research tools used in the CSM Biomechanics Research Group include but are not limited to scientific literature review, application of the finite element method, statistical and probabilistic analysis, rigid body dynamics modeling, forward- and inverse-dynamics modeling of the musculoskeletal system, patient specific modeling, multi-scale modeling, electromyography, and marker-based and marker-less motion capture. New and modern tools include geometry morphing and adaptive segmentation methods.
  • Colorado School Of Mines
Teaching Assistant - Computer Aided Engineering
Colorado School Of Mines Aug 2011 - Dec 2012
    Golden, Co
As a Teaching Assistant for EGGN 413 - Computer Aided Engineering, I assisted the course Instructor with duties specific to the course as well as general Teaching Assistant duties. These tasks included course preparation, homework preparation, homework grading, holding of office hours, proctoring of in-class examinations, and in-class answering of student questions. Additionally, I gave lectures on course material in the case of a required absence of the Instructor. The course material covered the application of the Finite Element Method using the SolidWorks software package and the validation of results through basic Mechanics of Materials (MoM) calculations. MoM calculations were often performed in the MathCAD software package and supplemented with hand calculations and free-body diagrams.
  • Colorado School Of Mines
Teaching Assistant - Mechanical Field Session 2012
Colorado School Of Mines May 2012 - Jul 2012
    Golden, Colorado
While officially employed as a Teaching Assistant, in actuality, I was helping as an Instructor for the Mechanical Engineering Field Session, SolidWorks module. In this portion of Field Session, Mechanical Engineering students were presented with and were asked to apply the skills associated with solid modeling (i.e. CAD modeling) using the SolidWorks program available from Simulia. The coursework covers topics including part creation, assemblies, drawings, and advanced SolidWorks functionality such as Animation, Flow Simulation, Motion, Photoview 360, Toolbox, and Simulation to name just a few.

    Junior Engineer
    T.H. Wiedemeier & Associates, Inc. May 2006 - Aug 2006
    Evergreen, Colorado
Performed quantitative organic chemistry analysis. Compiled a database of the time-history of chemical constituents in soil and created visual representations of contaminant plumes using contour maps.
