About Jeff Benoit
I retired as President and CEO of Restore America's Estuaries in 2019 following 42 years dedicated to coastal and marine conservation.Barbara and I started Beaufort Biscuits in 2021 after retiring from our hectic professional careers in the Washington, DC area and escaping to North Carolina's Crystal Coast to enjoy a more relaxed coastal lifestyle. Looking to start the next chapter in our lives together, it was Jeff’s passion for traditional southern buttermilk biscuits, and our dream to operate a small local business that resulted in Beaufort Biscuits. Jeff delighted friends and family with a variety of buttermilk biscuits flavors for many years and as retirement approached, he was encouraged to "do something" with the biscuits. As we considered our options, we happened to visit the Olde Beaufort Farmers Market in Beaufort, NC. The market was full of amazing vendors and had a strong community vibe...this was what we wanted to be part of! Beaufort Biscuits was started as a state approved home-based small artisan bakery specializing in Jeff's favorite southern comfort food, buttermilk biscuits and Barbara's ever popular granola. We continue to sell primarily at the Olde Beaufort Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Our biscuits are served warm, and the menu always includes plain, cinnamon, and cheddar biscuits, and then we have a rotating market-day special biscuit. The weekly special usually highlights local seasonal ingredients such as strawberries, blueberries, sweet potatoes, corn, and pecans. Our line of granola has expanded as to include five flavors. The business has grown to include two additional southern specialties, benne wafers and cheese straws. We absolutely love what we do and the many wonderful people we meet on this incredible voyage, but it’s really the smile we see when someone tries one of our classic southern treats for the first time and you can just tell it reminds them of Nanna.
