I served as the Program Coordinator for the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Program. The TMDL Program serves as an important component of the Clean Water Act by providing the "math and the path" to clean water in our lakes and streams. I was responsible for day to day management of the program and its five staff and strived to translate technical information into clear, actionable recommendations for implementation. I handled written and verbal interactions with other governmental programs and organizations, stakeholders, the media, and the general public. I served on several committees to national organizations on clean water issues such as the Association of Clean Water Administrators (ACWA) and Environmental Law Institute's Annual TMDL Workshop. I managed special clean water projects for the Department such as the State of Iowa's Nonpoint Source Management Plan, a $1.5M stormwater grant program, and the successful inception of Watershed Management Authorities. I wrote clean water education material for the Water Rocks! campaign, such as "Restless Tillage Syndrome," a parody of the ubiquitous pharmaceutical commercials. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ToKavHhu4PE

Developed comprehensive solid waste management plans for municipalities and Native American reservations throughout the Western US. Conducted asbestos surveys, including all National Wildlife Refuge facilities in the state of Oklahoma. Managed all aspects of a 54-site environmental site assessment project in NW Iowa. Other work included developing noise assessments in New Mexico, Spill Pollution Prevention Plans nationally for Kent Feeds, and conducting air quality monitoring for asbestos removal at the Principal Building in downtown Des Moines.
