First professional job was building custom atmospheric test equipment for the EPA. That lead to graduate school at Virginia Tech where I got my Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry. My skill set is understanding how systems work so they function properly. This includes both hardware and software, which makes it really fun.I worked for 12 years at Ciba Geigy doing practical development of analytical instrumentation. I wrote software for Laboratory Information System while doing computer animation and programming at home as a diversion. A merger gave me an out to get my Masters in Computer Science. I became the techie at a magnetic mass transit ticket manufacturing facility where I wrote the operational software and developed the hardware and transport systems for encoding magnetic tickets. There are ample opportunities to develop new instrumentation and it's a production environment so that keeps it real. I'm keenly interested in automation, robotics, machine vision, sensor technology, and interfaces.
