I complete certain investigations depending on the incident circumstances and report back to the Leadership and Senior Teams within the business.I produce incident performance data on a monthly basis and chair a monthly safety conference call that is mandatory for all senior staff in order to review the previous month’s performance. I attend meetings with the Operational, Commercial and Managing Directors to review and plan the Safety Strategy for the business.I attend all company insurance meetings, which are held every quarter, relating to personal injury, property damage and vehicle collisions that have occurred and have the potential to result in either a Public Liability or Employee Liability claim.Throughout the year I review and generate Generic Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and targeted Safety Bulletins for the company.I agree and arrange all statutory inspections of fire extinguishers, fire alarms, emergency lighting, gas appliances and asbestos surveys and I provide support for the arranging of any subsequent works that are required following these programmed visits.I handle calls from the branch network on a day-to-day basis and arrange monitoring visits as required. -
Health & Safety AdviserWiltshire Council Feb 2012 - Aug 2016Wiltshire Council had approximately 14,000 employees working in a very diverse range of occupations across the county from schools, waste management, adult care and children’s services through to highway and library management. In this role I worked closely with schools across the county whilst partnered with Social Care and Housing. I also represented Wiltshire Council on the South West Safety Adviser’s Panel Education and Social Care Sub-Groups. Within the council I was the Radiation Protection Officer for the county, again working closely with schools in the management of radiation within the schools’ science departments. I also designed a completely new school audit reporting document that was introduced at the start of the new school year in September 2013 and was very well received by the schools and union representatives alike.I worked extensively on an internal corporate audit through three departments within the council focusing on four key risks to the organisation: I met with everyone from the Senior Team through to frontline staff and established areas of concern that formed part of a report that was submitted to the Corporate Leadership Team for review.The role of Health & Safety Adviser allowed me to devise and deliver various training courses for general council staff, teaching staff, headmasters and school governors. The courses ranged from general health and safety awareness, risk assessment, fire, caretakers and site managers and manual handling to specific senior courses for those managing and governing schools within the county. Additionally I advised managers on statutory requirements, good practice and council / departmental procedures and policies relating to health and safety. I carried out a programme of inspections of workplaces and practices and produced reports making recommendations and identifying innovative solutions. -

I maintained responsibility for all branches and businesses within my geographical region, my duties included: branch auditing, support and all formal training for the branch management and their teams as required to advance the company’s Health & Safety Performance. I was the Wolseley HS&E Business Partner to Plumb & Parts Center (the largest division of all the Wolseley UK businesses). I attended and presented at regular Leadership Team meetings and individual meetings with all the senior directors of those businesses. Whilst in this role I reduced the Lost Time Accidents by 48.94%, RIDDOR Accidents by 50% and resulting Lost Days by 74.66% ultimately ensuring a significant reduction in the RIDDOR rate per 1000 employees during my four years in position.I actively encouraged an improvement in branch safety culture through HS&E Meetings held with the Regional Operations Management teams of all brands within my region and at regular intervals. I attended branch managers meetings on an on going basis to promote HS&E through presentations and incorporated Q&A sessions for the branch management team. I completed Accident Investigations as required and implemented changes in working practices sharing these findings with the Health & Safety Team and liaised with Local Authority Inspectors,I implemented newly acquired businesses into the health and safety standards required by Wolseley UK and in addition to these field based tasks I participated in team projects on an on going basis to ensure delivery to the company of improved standards and working practices.I was also responsible for preparing and attending civil courts to defend Employer’s Liability claims as required and appropriate. -
