Jeff Eakins has spent the past few years working on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. as the National Director for Government Affairs for the largest technician training organization in the country. It was there that Jeff was able to help influence financial aid policy change to allow tens of thousands of students/veterans to pursue career opportunities of their choice. While in Washington D.C., Jeff also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the National S.T.E.M. Education Coalition as well as on the Employment, Education, and Training Committee with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. These positions allowed Jeff to help promote and develop change towards improving the problem of the “skills-gap” within this country and work closely with major American companies in providing solutions through education. Prior to this, Jeff Eakins spent six years doing a case study - working closely with hundreds of high schools, school counselors, instructors, Boards of Education, as well as parents and students in various demographics – discussing the skills-gap and the views of education and training amongst these groups. During this time, it was Jeff’s opportunity to educate school counselors, superintendents, and others about the value of STEM education programs and the changes in educational opportunities for future employment. With his findings, Jeff was able to help begin the necessary change in the mindset of these groups towards education, training, and the dignity of working towards a successful career in fields with high demand for employees.
