First SergeantUs Army May 1980 - Jan 1998Arlington, Virginia, UsI served on active duty and in the reserves. I started as a Cavalry Scout, and finished as the senior enlisted person in a data processing unit. It was fun, for a long time. I did get the chance to travel around the world, and on the government's nickel! As a Cavalry Scout I performed duties ranging from being a scout through leading a scout section. I served in aviation and armored units; eventually I went on to get my pilot's license. I set the academic score record at Hohenfels BNCOC. Unfortunately I was educated and literate, so I often was dragooned into administrative duties. In Germany I wrote a complete training and administrative package in DBase III that allowed me to perform all administrative and training functions for a 311 man unit; the line companies each had two people taking care of half of the functions that I covered and they only had 42 men each.I really enjoyed my time on active duty. It was great to work with a group that was focused on accomplishing the assigned missions.
