Teaching courses in the Bookkeeping for Small Business program within the Continuing Education department at UFV.

As Financial Controller, I had many responsibilities, from preparing monthly financial packages and annual budgets for creditors and other stakeholders to ensuring that adequate controls and procedures were in place to safeguard company assets.As a “hands on” Controller, I prepared bi-weekly payroll runs, administered related benefit plans and maintained employee records; in lieu of a designated human resource manager, it was essentially my role, as well. I managed cash on a daily basis, monitored sales and actively participated in the bi-annual inventory counts, including post count variance analysis. I also worked closely with the A/R and A/P managers to ensure proper account management, providing guidance when required. I prepared all government and statutory remittances, as well as a monthly reporting package for ownership, summarizing sales, inventory, receivables and other ad hoc reports, as requested.

I taught Continuing Education courses on a contract basis, ranging from Bookkeeping and Excel to Simply Accounting. In addition to developing my teaching and mentoring skills, this experience also honed my public speaking skills and taught me to treat people with compassion.
