I am an innovative and versatile technologist with a diverse background and a history of delivering in complex environments for almost 20 years. I am a Technical Advisor to the CTO at Microsoft. Before that, I was the co-founder and CTO of Transparent Financial Systems, a fintech startup that I still advise. Leveraging distributed systems, blockchain, and deep regulatory/legal efforts, we've created the world's first true digital dollar. I was a key part of raising funds for the organization (over $22M), selling the product to large fintech companies, like Square, working with legal and regulatory systems, as well as building and leading an engineering team of 14 and a company of 32.Previous to this position, I was the technical advisor to Paul Allen at Vulcan - I worked directly for Paul and had oversight of over 90 projects and teams. These ranged from drones to stop poaching in Africa, satellite programs to stop illegal fishing, concussion detection and mitigation for the Seahawks, AI systems at AI2, coral reef conservation, and more. This role required excellent executive communication, exhaustive research, and the ability to get up to speed quickly on wildly disparate topics. I also served as a "technical gunslinger" to evaluate technology investments - everything from AR/VR to brain interface systems. Before working for Paul, I was part of the team at MSR NExT Special Projects - I worked on Project Natick, the submarine datacenters, as well as Holoportation. I also pitched and successfully landed what has become Azure Auto to key executives. Previous to Microsoft, I had a decade long career in robotics at CMU's National Robotics Engineering Center and other organizations - spanning from industrial robots and humans sharing workcells and self-driving 38-ton mining trucks to paint stripping F-16s with high powered lasers and leading a team building autonomous robotic lawnmowers.
