Systems Administration of all DS Waters’ UNIX and Linux systems. These included multiple HP-UX servers as well as RedHat Linux, FreeBSD servers and legacy SCO Unix and Solaris systems. The primary database systems were originally large HP-UX servers clustered with Veritas Cluster servers running Oracle Database and Financial Applications. Most Databases and Applications have been migrated to RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) during my tenure. Have installed Oracle RAC on RHEL. Built and administered RHEL Sendmail servers for separate domain, Additionally administered servers with Jboss applications, RHEL BIND DNS servers and various other purposes. Migrated Nagios systems monitoring from FreeBSD to RHEL. Another project involved migration of primary web servers from MS IIS to RHEL5 systems using Apache. Additional HP-UX systems used for Essbase, OLAP (Data Warehouse) and Payroll, Netbackup backup administration including multiple media servers, STK and Quantum i6000 tape libraries, Data Domain and Quantum DXi deduplication units, Web Servers and Oracle Applications. Storage systems administered include Pure FlashArray, Hitachi VSP, EMC Symmetrix (8830, DMX3) and Clariion (CX500, CX700 and CX3-20) in SAN environment originally using EMC Connectrix and later Cisco SAN switches.. The HP-UX servers used Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) and Veritas Filesystems (VxFS). Worked with JetAdmin (HPNP), CUPs and CEPs printing. Did regular database refreshes of test and training environments from associated Production environments. Maintained and added to Nagios monitoring for all systems including Windows servers, UPS and Air Handlers. Also did minor administration of legacy AS400 systems.

Systems Administration of Cisco’s Global Manufacturing, Data Warehouse and ERP environments. This included around 80 HP servers, 80 Sun servers and 30 Linux servers as well as several IBM Sequent Numa servers. Duties ranged from day to day administration to project work. Primary support done for HP-UX servers and project work building adding Linux servers. For these systems Solaris and Dynix is being phased out in favor of HP-UX for database and Linux for applications although most of the application servers were still on HP-UX, Solaris or Dynix. Most systems are running Oracle 9I (RAC in clusters) or Oracle 10.7 or 11I Financials. Storage is mainly EMC Symmetrix/DMX in SAN configuration. The HP-UX servers use MC/Service Guard for Clustering. The Solaris servers use VeritasCluster Server. Other applications supported included DollarUniverse, Connect4 Printing, and Biscom Faxcom. Due to a high number of development, staging and other boundary systems spent significant time performing data refreshes from Production to these other systems. Worked on meeting Sarbanes-Oxley requirements for financial systems.

Systems Administration of GlaxoSmithKline’s MERPS (Manufacturing Enterprise Resource Planning [ERP] Solution) landscapes. These were comprised of Sun Cluster Sun E10000s with multiple domains, a Sun 4500 and some Sun 420R servers, running Solaris 2.6 – 8, Oracle databases, SAP R/3 and MQ Series and utilized Sun Storage (A5200s, D1000s) as well as a Sun L700 DLT tape library. Additional software utilized was Tivoli Workload Manager (Maestro), BMC Patrol, UniQPrint (Macro4 ColubusD), Jetform, Jetadmin and Veritas Netbackup. These were FDA regulated “Validated” Systems used for global manufacturing sites including locations in U.S., Canada, Australia, United Kingdom and Italy.

Started as Operating Systems Programmer II and was promoted to Operating Systems Programmer III and finally to Operating Systems Programming Consultant. This was system administration rather than programming despite titles. Administered multiple high end and/or High Availability UNIX (HP-UX and Solaris) servers and Linux desktops along with associated systems such as EMC disk arrays, STK and Qualstar robotic tape libraries in SAN configurations. Served as group Subject Matter Expert for Foundation and Orbix middleware products. Supported other UNIX based software application installations including Remedy, Maestro, Patrol, Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Netbackup, Sun Cluster and HP ANSI C. Also supported DBAs on Sybase and Oracle DBMS products. Did direct administration of Informix used for Foundation Design. Served as department Change Area Coordinator through much of my tenure. Performance tuning using Glance/Measureware, sar and other utilities.Key projects worked included Perl port of scripts integral to operation of Foundation Middleware on which the main application was built, installation of operating system and applications at startup in India, HP-UX version upgrades, and company’s port of database operations from Sybase on HP-UX to Oracle on Solaris.

Started as Technical Support Specialist, was promoted to Boxload/Conversion/System Administrator Specialist and finally to position noted above.This was progression from primary applications/operating system support role to senior role. In final two positions served both as internal systems administrator for support and development systems as well as senior technical escalation point for all customer issues. Traveled to customer sites as necessary for site surveys, upgrades and on site troubleshooting. Worked closely with largest client, Holiday Inns, to do rollout of over 2000 systems. This was all on various UNIX platforms primarily AT&T System V releases 3.1 and 3.2 and 4 on 3B2 400, 600, 1000 and 6386 systems and later SCO 3.2/3.4 (Open Desktop). Other platforms included NEC Astrix, SCO Xenix, HP-UX, Solaris, AIX and NCR System V release 4.
