During my tenure at Penn State University, I have been the Technology Lead for WPSU, the university’s public media station, as well as an IT Director. In addition, I have leveraged my leadership and negotiating talents as a local elected official to achieve a variety of policy goals for the region. Across those roles I have had the opportunity to coordinate and support the creative work of a group in pursuit of innovative solutions, mentor emerging talent, and deliver cost-effective, and inherently stable and secure solutions.Because of my experiences, I have familiarity, and often expertise, in the full technology stack and the glue that allows the different layers to interact. One of my strengths has been anticipating technology trends and identifying the likely champion among competing technology implementations. I am enthusiastic about technology and its potential to support a greater goal while maintaining a healthy skepticism about some of the rhetoric surrounding it.

Technology LeadPenn State Public Media, Wpsu Oct 2006 - PresentUniversity Park, Pa, UsEnvision, design, implement and oversee maintenance of (non-Broadcast) technology for Penn State Public Media. This position develops and oversees the necessary platforms and infrastructure to support the most cost-effective creation, processing, distribution, storage and archiving of digital media and content.• Created the live streaming infrastructure for the station from source to player including onsite and cloud-based assets.• Digital Archivist overseeing the on-site and cloud-based systems for the archive and restoration of digital assets within WPSU’s business processes including the development of systems for the forward-archiving of older media.• Supervised the creation of the station’s online pledge system and managed its transition over time including the integration of PBS Passport streaming service registration.• Managed the implementation of WPSU Primary Channel and PBS Kids Channel live streams prior to PBS’s deployment.• Managed the streaming chain for Penn State’s 2020 Virtual Commencement supporting 77,000 unique viewers from 123 countries.• Developed an automated capture-and-post system to upload local programming to WPSU’s website after broadcast.• Designed and managed the development of the watch.psu.edu meta-structure to organize event live streams and optimize SEO.• Designed and integrated a distributed network of 14 video editing stations connected by fiber to a 225TB high-speed storage system.• Integrated SEO into the Penn State Media Sales business system resulting in a 40% increase in gross sales.

ISSO provided management and registration services for non-residential courses offered by the University including through the World Campus. This was the first system at Penn State to take online credit card payments.• Other leadership responsibilities included strategic planning, budget management, professional development and mentoring, performance reviews, and organizational communications.
