Oversight of multi-state home building and land development business targeting the empty nester buyer

Jeff joined Shea Homes in 1999 when he co-founded Shea’s Active Lifestyle Communities, a division within Shea Homes that acquires, develops and builds active adult communities on a national scale. Since its inception 13 years ago, Shea Homes and the Trilogy brand have become nationally recognized leaders in the active adult space. From a single project in 1999, our team successfully grew the Company from 200 home closings and revenues of $150M to a business spanning 5 states generating 2,000 home closings $1B. During this time, Jeff has been intimately involved in leading all aspects of the business and fulfilled the roles of Executive Vice President/COO, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Land Acquisitions.

Jeff was a founding team member of Shea Capital, a $1.2 billion institutional equity fund with CalPERS and co-led negotiations for the fund. Jeff also has co-led the sourcing of $1.6 billion in new debt originations including two large Wall Street rated syndications. Additionally, Jeff has led numerous other private and public debt placements totaling in excess of $330 million as well as sourced and led negotiations on several large private equity joint ventures to acquire new projects.

Lead financial and acquisitions executive for Shea Homes’ largest division. Jeff has played a leading role in $2.1 billion in land acquisitions compromising over 41,000 lots and including pro forma revenues exceeding $12 billion.

Led land acquisition efforts for upstart active adult division. Division was based in Phoenix and charged with national scope. Successfully originated several substantial acquisition opportunities, though Pulte later had difficulty financing large scale transactions associated with master planned communities.

Directed entire acquisition process including market analysis, financial analysis, valuation, negotiation and operational integration. Co-led company-wide operational improvement initiative focused on margin management, revenue enhancement and operational integration. Successful effort spanned across five regional operations covering 22 states and over 60 individual business units.
