My diverse career as a writer, editor and teacher currently involves editing and producing content for seven newspapers out of the Scripps Central Desk in Corpus Christi, Texas.In this increasingly responsible and deadline-driven role as an editor and page designer, I have worked using SaxoTech, InDesign and InCopy applications to produce and edit pages for newspapers across the United States. I performed similar responsibilities for two years with Journatic, telecommuting to design, edit and write content for clients including the San Francisco Chronicle, Connecticut Post, Tampa Tribune, Houston Chronicle, Orlando Sentinel, San Diego Union-Tribune and Los Angeles Times.These tenures have allowed me to build upon my academic experience – which includes a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Texas – and my previous experience as a news and sports copy editor, writer and clerk for the Austin American-Statesman and Columbus (Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer. My communications background also includes three years as a broadcast journalist in the U.S. Army, which would be a valuable resource in providing multimedia website content for the newspaper’s website.My expertise also includes a decade of teaching at the university and college level – freshman English composition and sophomore English literature courses – in addition to teaching dual credit and Advanced Placement English at the high school level. I am spending this year studying graduate-level history and government through Ashland University.Finally, I have also excelled in roles as a swimming coach, including twice being named the Texas high school girls' coach of the year (TISCA and Dallas Morning News Honors) and coaching multiple state team, relay and individual champions. Experience at the college level includes a two-year tenure as head coach at Iowa Central Community College and a year as a volunteer assistant with Texas A&M.
