I work in the experimental heavy ion physics group under Professors Jamie Nagle and Dennis Perepelitsa at the University of Colorado Boulder. We work with the ATLAS collaboration at CERN, along the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and the upcoming sPHENIX detector at Brookhaven National Lab, along the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), to understand the properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in hadronic collisions. Some of the questions we study are- Can high energy quarks and gluons be resolved by the QGP, and by which mechanism(s) is their energy redistributed? - What are the minimal formation conditions of QGP? Do small collision systems really form tiny droplets of QGP?- How we can use an admixture of soft and hard probes to gain insights into the physical properties of the plasma, such as its viscosity? This can place constraints on predictions from AdS/CFT and is therefore important far beyond the field of heavy ion physics.

Our group studies pulsars and the interstellar medium as they pertain to pulsar timing and gravitational wave astronomy. I primarily work with Jim Cordes and Shami Chatterjee, but have worked with others previously. My work pertained to preparing for a new electron density model in our galaxy. I have contributed to several projects, including constructing a relational database of astrometric measurements, as well as writing code for new graphics. In the end, we hope to improve existing pulsar timing methods to nanosecond precision so that we can detect gravitational waves through our collaboration with NANOGrav.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

Ithaca, New York

I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for Mechanics & Heat (PHYS 1112) for one semester, and then for Oscillations, Waves, and Quantum Physics (PHYS 2218) for two semesters. My responsibilities included helping students in discussion sections, running labs, and providing assistance during study hall hours, as well as attending weekly staff meetings to discuss course logistics.

I was largely tasked with reprocessing data analyses lost in a RAID crash several years ago. These regenerated analyses (taken from observation data obtained at Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico) can be used to calculate rotation measures from pulsar observations. The goal of our research is to use these values to measure the galactic magnetic field. The work is in collaboration with a group of scientists at Carleton College led by Prof. Joel Weisberg, who are providing a model that allows us to subtract the influence of Earth's ionosphere. This work is ongoing and may result in a future academic paper.
