I’m a professional geologist and corporate consultant with the Nevada Geoenvironmental group at SRK Consulting. My expertise in mine-closure strategy includes land use, regulatory governance, and socioeconomic transitioning. I have more than 40 years of experience including over 30 years in mine closure.With significant contributions to environmental conservation on a global scale, I share thought leadership on and knowledge of mine closure well beyond industry consulting to include private and governmental organizations. This body of work includes best practices, corporate standards, guidance documents, and regulatory policies in support of building environmental, social, and governance frameworks that account for the legal, financial, stakeholder, technical, and institutional-capacity considerations within mine closure. I also currently serve on two professional advisory boards at the University of Nevada, Reno. I have served on boards of two churches over the last 30 years. I have served a total of 10 years on the board of trustees for the American Exploration & Mining Association and am currently serving on that board. I was the President (and chair of the board) of that organization in 2022.In addition to board service, I regularly serve on committees for various mining organizations including chairing organizing committees for conferences and symposiums. I co-chaired the committee for the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America’s abandoned mine symposiums for the last 6 years. I also organized and chaired the 2023 International Mine Closure Conference in Reno, Nevada that attracted over 500 mine closure practitioners and generated a $270,000 profit.
